Love and Other Unknown Variables

Charlie Hanson has a clear vision of his future. A senior at Brighton School of Mathematics and Science, he knows he’ll graduate, go to MIT, and inevitably discover solutions to the universe’s greatest unanswered questions. He’s that smart. But Charlie’s future blurs the moment he reaches out to touch the tattoo on a beautiful girl’s neck.

The future has never seemed very kind to Charlotte Finch, so she’s counting on the present. She’s not impressed by the strange boy at the donut shop—until she learns he’s a student at Brighton where her sister has just taken a job as the English teacher. With her encouragement, Charlie orchestrates the most effective prank campaign in Brighton history. But, in doing so, he puts his own future in jeopardy.

By the time he learns she's ill—and that the pranks were a way to distract Ms. Finch from Charlotte’s illness—Charlotte’s gravitational pull is too great to overcome. Soon he must choose between the familiar formulas he’s always relied on or the girl he’s falling for (at far more than 32 feet per second squared).

Review:

This book is really an amazing roller-coaster, by the name and cover you might think that this book is all love and happy thoughts, and for the most part  it is, Charlie and Charlotte are like all those couples that are meant to be together even though they don't have much in common.

It made me cry in ways that I had not cried with books, if you are a fan of The Fault in Our Stars then Shannon Lee Alexander's Love and Other Unknown Variables is the book for you.
And even if you didn't like John Green's hit, this is a book you need to read.

It has the cocky character, the beautiful girl, the difficult relationship, but is so much more, it has the it factor, it has that thing that doesn't let you put the book done until is done.

There is not too much romance, meaning there are no cheesy lines or just the wrong kind of love language, it is very much like a normal REAL teen boy and girl falling in love without so much as too sweet love lines and love declarations, it is real and relatable.

I would really recommend you to read Love and Other Unknown Variables it has a 5 our of 5 stars on my book.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

Synopsis:

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems besides the point now.

Maybe that was always besides the point.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .

Is that what she’s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?

Review:

okay so this book was pretty much all I expected. It was funny, it was sweet, it was lovable, you wanted to hug it and most of the book was like a tween book. Georgie told the story of her and Neal in college, and how they met, and how he proposed to her. And it was so pretty, it was just so well written and you couldn't help but love their story, to love every moment they spend together.
Although I was sort of mad at some points when it said how Neal was, he was just like a robot and you couldn't tell what the hell was happening in his mind. It was sort of irritating.
BEST PART EVER was the magic phone and WHEN WE FIND OUT THAT GEORGIE WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE PHONE CALLS TO THE PAST, I was so excited to know that it was like back to the future kind of thing. I LOVE IT, it was so magical and so sweet and with just the kind of drama that I  love.

I give this book about 4.5 stars just because I love Eleanor & Park, and Fangirl, a little more than Attachments, and Landline.

AND I was freaking out when we get a little update in one of the couples from the previous novels. OH GOD. It was freaking awesome and I was pretty much screaming. Though it was the middle of the night so I couldn't really do it but whatever.

LOVED LANDLINE AND THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO SAY
GO CHECK IT OUT!

One True Thing by Lynne Jaymes

Synopsis

Ty Branch has wanted one thing his entire life—to play professional baseball. When he gets a chance to move from San Francisco to play at Texas powerhouse Garvin State University, he's willing to do whatever it takes to make his dream come true, even if that means hiding his past. But when he meets dance major Jenna Taylor, the chemistry is so strong his single-minded quest begins to weaken. As he gets to know her quirky, small-town family, he falls more deeply
in love, but becomes even more sure he can never tell her the truth about his family.

When a surprise visitor blows his past wide-open, Ty is forced to come to terms with his secrets. But is the damage already done with Jolene or can he find a way to sacrifice everything he's worked for in order to win back the heart of a once-in-a-lifetime love.

Review

Okay so I was expecting a lot more of this book due to the thing above. It sounds so intriguing because there is a "lie" and hidden secret, and so fort the "visitor blows his past wide-open" you sort of expect this to be something huge, not what it actually is.
Probably I live in a state that discrimination is not a huge thing although it is because it's Nebraska and all that but I have never encounter someone that says because you are black or Latino you cannot be in this sport. I think that the secret was overblown to an extend that tricks the reader. I was very disappointed by this, I was just disappointed. The story was sort of good, it was all too fast for me, they don't even play the interesting part of getting to be on a date. They just happen to be friends with the right people so they meet at some random place and then they go home and almost have sex. I was screaming COME ON, seriously?
This was probably not my kind of book though I was very excited to read it and it was disappointing.
But it might be the book for you, you just have to check it out, it's short and you can do it within a day.
So yeah I was so expecting more of this book but probably was not in the mood to read it and that is what cause me to not like it.

I would give it a 2.5 stars just because the excerpt kind of fools you and I didn't get what I was expecting. It had potential but it didn't do it for me.

Immortal City by Scott Speer

Synopsis:

Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city that revolves around idolizing Immortals like him. He grew up in the spotlight, and in less than a week, he'll become the youngest full-fledged Guardian ever. People around the world are lining up to pay for him to keep them safe. His lifelong dream of becoming a hero is finally within his grasp--and he can't afford to let the parties, paparazzi, or red carpets distract him.

But Jackson's high-profile life takes an unexpected turn when he meets seventeen-year-old Maddy. She's smart and down-to-earth, and sees Jackson for who he is and not for his celebrity. They forge an instant--and electric--connection. Their vastly different backgrounds seem like the only obstacle in their path of being together...until something much more dangerous threatens to destroy their chance at love.

Because not everyone worships the Angels: a bitter killer is murdering the Guardians one by one. And it's up to Maddy to save Jackson--he's next in the killer's sights.

Review:

This book was really amazing. I definitely enjoyed every bit of it. I loved that it wasn't from a single point of view and it was told in third person. We got to experience every little detail that was happening in the story and not just a one side part.
The only thing I would say was a bit, odd was how the "love" story developed. Jacks and Maddy don't really get to develop this love because everything happens too quickly and it doesn't really describe that it was love at first sight, at least not from Maddy's side because for Jackson I think it kind of says it is.
But the story line is amazing, is a world that enchants instantly, I mean, who wouldn't love to live in a city were things like angels are real, this side of angle story telling is so awesome and it shows that not only women can write amazing male characters that enchants us with their charm.
I specially loved the second to the last chapter, when all shit goes down and we figure out who is killing the angles and ripping their wings. Another detail that I also loved is that Maddy can sort of see the future, right there you know something is going on.
This story is definitely worth reading. I give it a 4.5 stars because it was awesome.

A Tragic Wreck by T. K. Leigh (The Beautiful Mess series book 2)

Synopsis

How can you continue living when you’re living a lie? How can you convince your body to stop feeling, your soul to stop caring, and your heart to stop beating?

Haunted by her past, Olivia Adler flees Boston for a beach in Florida, leaving everyone behind, trying to shut the world out. Remaining a relative recluse in her self-imposed prison, she tries to turn everything off, wanting to feel nothing. But a new acquaintance won’t let that happen. After being away from Alexander for a month, his voice constantly ringing in her head, reminding her that her inability to confront her demons will not only destroy her, but also him, can she really be expected to want to feel again when it brings nothing but pain?
Back in Boston, everywhere he turns, Alexander Burnham is reminded of Olivia… His Olivia… He tries to dull the ache left in his heart the only way he knows how… in the bed of a beautiful woman. But Alexander isn’t about to lose his Olivia. After a clue comes to light regarding Olivia’s whereabouts, can he convince her to return to Boston with him? When a force that has laid dormant for months resurfaces, can Alexander still protect her from the unknown danger? And when Alexander comes face to face with a shadow of both his and Olivia’s past, will he be able to tell her the secret that is threatening to tear them apart?

Review

Okay so... I was just the tiniest bit disappointed by this book, it was really good don't get me wrong but, it is definitely not what I was expecting based on the synopsis or prologue of this book. There was A LOT OF SEX which I avoid reading most of the time, as I say for A Beautiful Mess  I don't read the sex parts because is just not my thing but the story line is good. So Olivia leaves because she doesn't trust her feelings and that Alexander will stay because of what he said "It will destroy me too" and so she bases her departure on making Alexander's life better without her.
She was a bit disappointing because in some parts I saw her as a (pardon for my following word selection) whore. Yep, she had sex with this guy Cam because she just didn't want to feel any more of the pain. Through out those chapters I was just kind of screaming to the book and Olivia, "why don't you just go back to Boston and make up with Alexander" both were suffering, so, what was the big deal?
On the other hand we know that Alexander has swear and swear that he has always waited for his Olivia, and he just decides that he is getting married with this other girl that we didn't know a blip about, and then Olivia is back trying to get him back and he keeps telling her no, knowing that she has troubles. So this is just a messed up part of the story that could have been written a bit differently without so much of repetition of the same thing, love, sex, fight, crying, and over again. At some points was just really boring, and again Olivia doesn't find out about her past, and she doesn't know she is been living in a Lie her entire life.
Once again the story line was really good, with some boring parts, and things that could definitely been written better.
I give this second book a 3.5 stars out of 5 just because it had some boring parts but the story line still got me thinking on what will happen in the third and final book.

Fingers crossed for Gorgeous Chaos to be better than this one.

A Beautiful Mess by T. K. Leigh

Synopsis

What happens when you lose everyone that promised they would always be there for you? How can you protect the few pieces of your shattered heart that remain?

Olivia Adler is a woman with a troubled past. After losing her parents at the young age of six and being raised by an uncle who she lost years later, she refuses to get attached to anyone, including friends. For the past decade, she has been able to remain unattached to any man, too worried about losing someone to get too close. Until Alexander Burnham walks into her life one night and changes everything. But he has issues of his own. And he’s keeping a secret that could turn Olivia's world upside-down. Will Olivia let Alexander in enough for him to get close and protect her from a force threatening her very existence, or will she push him away, scared of letting Alexander in, in order to protect her heart?

A Beautiful Mess is the first installment of a three part series sure to captivate the heart with a story of secrets, courage, and love.

Recommended for ages 18 and up due to sexual situations, language, and mild violence.

REVIEW

If you are looking for something similar to Fifty Shades of Grey this is your book! A Beautiful Mess is the story of this twenty-seven year old Olivia who is a very strong woman, but is unable to make any sentimental attachments to any man, the relationships she has are only for the benefit of "getting laid" she likes it that way and seems to be perfectly okay with it. Her friends Kiera and Mo (Jack) are always on her back about doing things right, and finding a guy who she can love but she is just afraid to make such connection and then losing him.
Alexander on the other hand is capable of making a connection and actually wants it but with a girl who happens to be dead, yeap, or so he thinks she is dead, he has only loved one girl and that girl ends up being Olivia
They meet really weirdly but you know right from the get go that something is going on with Alexander, he saves her and right in that moment he thinks the brown-eyed girl is his Olivia, he does find out soon that in fact she is the girl who he though died more than twenty years ago and whom he has always looked for. He obviously falls right in love with her again, not that he ever stopped but he falls.
They have some weird relationship because Olivia doesn't really want to make the commitment of the relationship but at the same time she knows he is the only guy who can ever make her feel so alive.
They have a rather passionate relationship, with lots of sex, some fighting and Alex going crazy with her protection because he knows she is alive for a reason and is afraid he is going to lose her again.

The story line is great, it has you making assumptions, and guessing, and I believe that is the way a book should make you feel. It has a lot of sex descriptions so if you're one of those people that don't like to know it graphically, is something you might want to avoid reading (I know I did) but the story aside from the sexual content is great, so don't put this book in the "to never read" list, the story is something you might enjoy.
The ending is a shocker, but at the same time is something that is foretold, something that you thought might happen.

Do not get fooled by the synopsis this books don't really go with what it says in there but they have some of it .
A Beautiful Mess is a story worth reading and getting involved with, besides you are totally gonna want to know what happens in Tragic Wreck because this story has an amazing cliffhanger.

This book definitely deserves a 4.5 stars

Intro

This blog is just to post my ideas and thoughts on books that I have read over the past year,
I don't intend to be an amazing reviewer or anything like it, just want to express my feelings and maybe engage in a conversation with all those of you that like the same books, have the same thoughts on it or engage in a discussion about it!
